Canary islands- Spain

For our two year anniversary, Jeff and I decided to go someplace we’ve never been before. It’s definitely been on my bucket list to visit the Canaries of Spain. With grinning faces, we booked our tickets to Spain and got our bags packed! It’s so important to us to go on vacation at least once a year. It gives you a chance to reconnect and break away from the daily routine of cleaning, cooking, laundry and waking up early (I hate waking up early!). It was such a treat to open my eyes every day to my love in a place I’ve always wanted to see. Make time away from home with your spouse a priority.

Island of Tenerife

Village of Masca

The Canary Islands consists of seven different islands that all belong to Spain. Kind of like the Virgin Islands of the USA. We visited the island of Tenerife because it is known to be lively and fun. It’s also the largest of the Islands. The south side is known to be warmer than the north and has nicer beaches which we knew we would enjoy. Being steps from the beach and boardwalk was also important for us as we didn’t plan on renting a car. Tenerife had all that we were looking for so we chose to stay on this gorgeous island. The Canaries is considered to have #1 best climate in the world. And we agree! Beautiful weather every single day we were there and sunshine until 9pm.

Accommodations

We spent 8 days at the Royal Sunset Beach Club Resort. We were down the block from the beach and boardwalk. There were also about 100 restaurants all within walking distance from our resort (no exaggeration!). There was plenty to do as well as a lively nightlife. We got a 1 bedroom suite equipped with a full kitchen. With over 100 restaurants nearby we certainly didn’t spend much time cooking but it was good to have. The resort had a stunning pool, swim up bar, and nightly entertainment. We were very pleased with the place 🙂

Exploring

I love to book excursions when on vacation. It is a great way to see the island while having lots of fun. Jeff on the other hand is more of a beach bum. He prefers to enjoy the cool breeze with a nice cocktail in hand. Don’t get me wrong- I love that too but I am a bit more adventurous that he is lol. As a compromise we decided to book an all day (9-hour) whole island tour excursion. It was so amazing! The island is truly a beauty and I was glad to see the north side. We saw the little fishing village of Masca, Mount Tiede, the world’s oldest dracaena tree, and many more highlights. We spent other days relaxing at the beach/pool, shopping, and trying all those restaurants!

Eating

As a vegetarian, it is not always easy to find good places to eat. I was pleasantly surprised to find very good eats while on this vacation! I was able to enjoy local foods including breakfast with beans, hash browns, eggs, and veggie sausage and dinners consisting of fresh baked cod, potato with their signature local sauce (pimento) and vegetables. We were even able to enjoy some of our favorite international cuisine such as Asian, Indian, and American cuisines! It’s safe to say that vegetarians and meat eaters alike won’t go hungry here.

A Trip Worth Taking

If you ever thought Europe was too far or that you could never take a trip like this, think again! We did everything on a budget and even with the conversion to Euros it didn’t break the bank to eat, drink, and explore like rock-stars! It’s worth every bit of the memories you will create with your loved one.
