Traveling During Covid-19

You may feel you want to crawl up in a ball only to come out when this pandemic is over. But as the months go by, you may start craving some sense of normalcy in your life. Like family vacations! Jeff and I getaway every year but this year brought on so many worries and uncertainties that traveling seemed like a huge no-no. We already had to cancel our anniversary trip to Vegas which would have also been our baby moon. Very disappointing. But instead of cancelling the entire idea a trip we thought of ways we can still safely getaway and enjoy the outdoors. And trust me, we’re so glad we did.

Think local. We booked a week long stay at Ocean Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. This was only driving distance for us. We chose to stay in our state because it would eliminate any need to quarantine before or after our trip. Also, this destination offers the beach, outdoor pool, and plenty of outdoor dining options. We loved that this property strictly enforced masks and would not even let you eat/drink inside the property (except in your room of course!)

Think clean. Upon arrival, we used our own disinfectant wipes to wipe down the entire room. Yes, the room was already clean but for extra piece of mind we brought a bottle of lysol wipes and did it ourselves. That assured us that even the finest detail would’t be missed. High germ surfaces that could have been missed by housekeeping include the remote control, light switches, and door handles.

Think fun. Yes, you can still have a good vacation without a crowd. It’s a good way to reconnect with your spouse, or bond with the kids. I know this sounds funny but we avoided people as much as possible. It was truly all about us. And it was amazing. Don’t let the pandemic ruin your year or your season. Just redefine it. If you are thinking about a safe getaway this season- do it! You won’t regret it.

Additional tips- Keep in mind to sanitize your hands often. Be mindful of cross contamination especially with your cell phone. You may touch a door handle to enter a building then get a call and touch your phone. Now your phone has the germs. We make a habit of also sanitizing our phones with disinfecting wipes or alcohol pads. Be practical. Be prayerful. And live your best life!
