3 Ways to Curve The Holiday 10

Wellness Wednesdays On The Blog!

“There’s donuts in the break room” says my colleague as soon as I walk into the nurses station. I decide to let others partake in it and skip the cals. It’s 11am and a vendor brought us a thank you basket of cookies. Although I’m slightly hungry I say to myself, I will resist the urge to snack purposelessly on those cookies. I passed again. As I return from lunch, a colleague says come, join us for cake to welcome the new residents. Ok, I’m done! How on earth am I supposed to avoid all these sweets calling my name all day!?!?!?! So I give in to cake AND leftover cookies I passed up earlier. Oh, how I failed again to stick to my regime.

If you’re anything like me the holidays can make it hard to stick to clean eating. Sweets are my weakness! And with all the freebie cookies, chocolates, and cupcakes it can be hard to resist. But even if you have a sweet tooth like me you can still indulge and avoid gaining that extra 5-10 pounds between Nov 1rst- Dec 31rst. Here are 3 ways to curve that holiday 10!

Intermittent fasting has been golden for me lately. The idea is to ‘fast’ 12-16 hours per day and limit your eating time to the rest of the hours. The fasting period forces your body to use stored glucose and fat for energy. If you’re consistent, some say you can lose lose weight while eating whatever you want. I’ve been doing the 16 hour fasting periods from 8pm-12pm. Between noon to 8pm I have not been counting calories and I have seen weight loss of around 1-2 pounds a week (without going to the gym). I will be continuing this pattern through the holidays to avoid the extra pounds!

Don’t want to go 12-16 hours without food? I love using MyFitnessPal to track my calorie goals. Even if you have that donut, it’s ok. As long as you stick to your calories for the rest of the day. And when you work out, you get some extra calories back. If you are consistent, you will find that you can still have the best of both worlds. This works well for long term weight management. I’ve used it on and off for 6 years.

Meal replacement shakes can be a good way to keep you calories down during the holidays. Herbalife has great tasting shakes with all the nutrients you need to keep you going. If you have a heavy breakfast of bagels and pastries, try having a shake for lunch or dinner. This has been an easy and convenient way to curb calories.

The bottom line is depriving yourself of everything you crave will not work for long. You can have a balance and still maintain and even lose weight. If you overeat one day, just get back on the horse the next day. The key is to never give up. I challenge you to maintain your weight this holiday season! Comment below to let me know you’re with me!
