Safe Summer Travel Tips
The world is opening back up again and after a hard year of isolation & quarantine just about everyone is ready to hit the play button this season. This includes planning activities like concerts, water parks, and attractions. Since Covid-19 is still very much out there, it is important to have a plan for safe summer travel. Mask requirements are loosening up and are completely abandoned in some states. This does not mean the virus isn’t around lurking.
Some of you may be saying “I got the vaccine!!” And that is great. However, being vaccinated does not prevent you from getting or spreading the virus. It is a layer of protection so you don’t die from it. With that being said- you still need to be mindful and use these practical tips when you are out and about this summer!
Tips For Safe Summer Travel
- Wash/sanitize your hands frequently. This may seem like a no-brainer but many of us don’t think about how many germs we pick up with our hands on a regular basis. While the germs in your house are generally ok, new ones from public places are typically the ones that make you sick. When you come out of a public place like a store or market- sanitize. That way you aren’t taking those germs with you everywhere.
- Keep Your Distance. This is still a good idea folks. If you are around people, especially those that you don’t know, just stand back. A simple cough or sneeze can send 100,000 germs into the air traveling at 100 mph. That is a lot of germs coming at you really fast!! And one of those contagions could be the covid-19 virus. Yikes!
- Sanitize Surfaces. This is a huge way that we pick up bacteria and viruses. While normally it wouldn’t hurt us to pick up a few bugs along the way, the coronavirus is not the one. Carrying sani wipes is a great idea when you’re out and about so you can easily wipe down commonly touched surfaces such as the steering wheel of a rental car, the door handles & light switches in your hotel room, or the seat back tray on a plane.
- Be mindful of cross-contamination. This is a very common way that bacteria & viruses spread. Remember when the coronavirus first came out and everyone was wearing gloves? I would see people touching surfaces with their gloves on then immediately touching their phone when it rings. The germs from the gloves got on the phone. That’s how cross contamination occurs. Grab a clorox wipe and disinfect that phone ladies & gents. Kids bring germs home too so don’t forget to clean off their toys and tablets also.
Whether you decide to take your mask off this season or not, these safe summer travel tips will help keep you and your family safe & healthy. This applies not only to traveling but to your everyday life. As we start to get back to our normal social lives, I want you to have fun and most importantly- stay safe!
