Faith In Time Of Fear

We are definitely living in trying times. Social distancing, curfews, quarantines, and full on lock down. Wow. With the growing spread of the novel coronavirus, it can be hard to feel like everything is going to be ok. Jeff and I both work in healthcare and we are seeing more and more positive cases everyday. We’ve been coming home everyday more worried than ever before. But it is at times like these that you must not forget who is really in charge. Spending all your time in worry will do nothing for you. Your faith is what will ultimately get you through.

Jeff and I are taking this time to turn to scripture. I’m not going to lie, I have been in a complete frenzy over this pandemic. I feel like I’ve lost my sense of community. But God has not forsaken us and he will never leave us. Use this time to draw closer to Christ and to each other! Think about it- social distancing has created ample time for you to spend together with no outside distractions. Don’t allow this to be a time of mayhem in your household. Hold on to one another and pray for one another. Let your spouse and God anchor you during these tremulous times.

This is the time to strengthen your marriage and your bond as a family. Jeff and I are spending much more quality time as a couple- even though we can’t go out. We’ve been praying together, cooking together, and reassuring each other throughout all this. They say that a staggering number of marriages will end in divorce by the time this all blows over. But this doesn’t have to be the case. Keep looking to God and you are guaranteed to have the exact opposite effect.

We have found some great bible verses that advise against fear and elicit faith. We encourage you to read them and pray as a family. Remember that this too, shall pass.

  • Joshua 1:9 This is my command—”be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
  • Psalm 23:4 “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me”
  • Psalm 94:19 “When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer”
  • Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
  • 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

By the end this, come out on top in your marriage! Make a plan to love on each other more and really enjoy each other’s company. These difficult times challenge us to hone in on ourselves and our relationship. Keep trying, keep praying, and keep faith. We’re rooting for you!
