My Budget Friendly Self Care Routine

Self care days are important whether you are married, single, and/or a mom. We all face stressors in life and can use a little time to do something just for ourselves. But how often do we actually carve out the time to do this? I am guilty of overlooking my own self care. These days of shelter in place gives us an opportunity for self care time at home. You’re not running out on the weekends to events now. Use the time to give back to yourself! And you’ll have no excuse not to try it because my entire routine is under 10 bucks! Say what?!?! Yup. All you need a little time to yourself and you can feel like a million bucks.

Start (Or End) Your Day Off Right

No matter what time of day you choose, you want to start off your routine by getting your mind de-cluttered. I start off my routine with a devotion or meditation. I follow that with a yoga session that allows my body to release tension. If your goal is to relax, you may want to go with a restorative type of yoga. The postures focus on stretching/relaxing the muscles. And since this is budget friendly- head over to the Nike Training App and check out their yoga collection. Totally free and totally worth it!

Mini Facial

I simply can’t have a self care day without showing my skin some extra love! Our faces take a beating every day being exposed to all those elements. Plus my skin is acne and scar prone. You can have a spa worthy facial in the comfort of your own home using what you already have in the house by following these easy budget friendly steps.

Self Care Skin Care Routine
  1. Cleanse– always start with a clean, bare face. Use your usual skin cleanser and lather in circular motions for at least 45 -60 seconds. Seems like a long time but we this is dermatologist recommended daily. Pat or air dry.
  2. Steam treatment– this opens your pores and allows impurities to escape. No fancy equipment needed here. Simply pour boiling hot water into a large bowl. Place your face over the bowl and create a tent over your head and the bowl with a towel. Put some relaxing music on and stay put for at least 10 minutes. Do not rinse after.
  3. Detoxify– now that your pores are open, you can use a face mask to draw out any toxins buried in your skin. I have some bargain finds that work pretty well. Freeman’s Charcoal and Black Sugar mask and Global Beauty Care Gel mask. Both work well depending on the ultimate goal of your skincare. Definitely a budget friendly win at under $10! Slather it on and sit tight for 10-15 minutes. Let your mind wander free and practice stillness if you can. Create your own mask for free using avocado and honey. Mash half an avocado, mix in the honey and coat it on your face. Leave on for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse & Moisturize– rinse with COLD water. Very important so that you close your pores after cleaning them out. My skin usually feels soft and supple after rinsing off the mask. But to avoid it drying out later you may want to put on something light. Coconut oil- yes the one you cook with- is a great moisturizer because it has an antibacterial properties. Just make sure it’s the virgin kind. If you don’t have it feel free to use whatever moisturizer you have!

Relax

Maybe a bubble bath sounds good to you here. Maybe it’s just kicking your feet up and watching a movie solo. Whatever your preference is, do something that you enjoy that does not require any work! It wouldn’t be self care day without it.
